Perry Robinson describes this as the “vanilla” problem. Whether it is “homestyle vanilla” or “traditional vanilla,” it is all still vanilla. If your proposal looks and sounds exactly like your competitor’s, you lose the ability to shape requirements and stand out to the evaluator. Bryan Jenkins noted that people are even starting to recognize the “signature” of AI, like the frequent use of em dashes or specific sentence structures, which can make a response feel unoriginal.

Building a “Library of Truth”

The solution is not just better AI; it is a better foundation. The RocketDocs team advocates for a Library of Truth approach. This means:

  • Human-in-the-Loop: Instead of letting AI generate answers from scratch, the system should first look for the “voice” of the company in its existing, approved content.
  • Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG): Using a RAG-based approach ensures the AI only pulls from a specific, private set of verified information rather than the open internet.
  • Process-Driven Review: AI is not “intelligent” in the human sense; it is a source aggregator. To combat hallucinations, companies must have a system that routes technical or sensitive answers to the correct subject matter expert (SME) for approval.

Security Gap: Shadow AI vs. Governance

A significant portion of the episode focused on the tension between speed and security. With 90% of companies feeling pressured to adopt AI, yet only 20% trusting the solutions available, “Shadow AI” is becoming a major corporate risk. This occurs when employees use unvetted public tools because internal policies are too restrictive.

As Perry pointed out, the goal of an AI Governance Committee should not be to block innovation, but to provide a “safe stack.” By owning the AI IP stack and deploying it within a customer’s virtual private cloud, companies can ensure their proprietary data, and the data of their customers, never feeds back into public training models.

The Future of Procurement

As the episode concludes, the message is clear: the real winners in the AI era will not be the ones with the biggest algorithms, but those with the best libraries. In a world of automated templates, a response backed by a verified library and a human touch will always shine brighter.
